**UPDATE** We are no longer taking bookings for SALT 10.
The event will take place on June 3-5 2016, and like previous tours will include visits to a Cold War site, other points of interest and real classic vehicle touring.
The SALT tours remain the UK’s only classic vehicle touring events aimed squarely at Cold War era vehicles from both the Eastern Bloc and NATO countries.
For our Tenth Glorious Tour SALT 10 will be based on the edge of the People’s Republic of South Yorkshire at the historically important ‘Worker’s Stately Home’, Wortley Hall, just north of Sheffield.
Following on from the success of our SALT 9 sortie on the Friday we have added an optional Friday tour for Tourists who wish to make a longer weekend of SALT.
Friday 3 June (Optional excursion)
Late morning departure to York Cold War Bunker using a mixture of fast A roads and minor country lanes. Lunch in York before returning to SALT HQ.
Friday evening SALT vehicles will be on display at HQ for a Cold War Classics car show with entertainment and other surprises.
Saturday 4 June
An early start for a tour into the Peak District national park with many stops for the views, visits and refreshments. Our main visit for the day will be to National Coal Mining Museum for England where we will descend 140m underground to discover the harsh realities of coal mining through the centuries.
Saturday evening at HQ kicks off with a drinks reception followed by a talk from a Cold War historian and the night is rounded off by our Gala Dinner with quiz, trophy presentation and prize-giving.
Sunday 5 June
After more challenging Peak District byways our base for the day’s visits will be Kelham Island Industrial Museum in Sheffield with a visit to the National Emergency Services Museum just a short walk away.
Tourists have an option to finish off the weekend with lunch and a pint of fine local ale before heading home.
* This itinerary is currently provisional but unlikely to change a great deal.
For our tenth anniversary we are very proud to be able to use Wortley Hall our our Tour HQ. Now a hotel and educational training centre the hall is known as the ‘People’s Stately Home’ thanks to more than six decades linked to the trade union, labour and co-operative movements.
